Where’s the Math? (with apologies to you Math teachers)?
I ran across my old HP-48g calculator and remembered what a lifesaver that thing was in college. I loved math. I was good in math and it brought up my GPA. I even went in to do computer programming and was glad I had taken math.
Now being middle age I rarely see it. I spend most of my time on email and PowerPoint. At home doing improvement projects, its just simple addition and subtraction. Money is usually just simple addition and subtraction with the occasional amortization table a website can make for me.
I feel like sort of a hypocrite asking this because I order and post the Math Awareness poster at work for people to ignore every now and then but I’ll ask anyway.
Where is the math? What should I use that old calculator for? Is there an application of something that I’m doing without the math that would be easier with the math?
