I used to let one of my dogs sleep in bed with me up until she was 5, but then randomly she got into the habit of waking up at 2 a.m. EVERY NIGHT, and she’d be relentless when I’d try to make her go back to sleep, and she’d go play outside and it was very strange because she never really liked being outside. Now we have a pen set up for her at night so she can sleep and play and whatever without being a little pest.
Now I have a puppy, who is 1 year old, he is a great little chiwauwau. He usually comes to bed with me at 10pm and sleeps all the way up til 8am like clockwork. He’s very good about peeing, he holds it all through the night and never gives me any trouble. But 3 nights ago he started waking up full of energy at 5 a.m. At first I just thought he had to go potty, so I let him out, and he did go, but then he like ran around the backyard and played. The next night he did the same thing. And now this past night he did it again but I didn’t give in. But it took me about an hour of petting and ear scratching for him to finally fall asleep again.
Why do dogs remember these new habits? It amazes me how precise and consistent it is. But it is super annoying. What could be happening with him that makes him randomly want to wake up so early and be rowdy?
