Historic home registry?
My last house was a 1920s bungalow. I had a lot of fun tearing out carpet, refinishing wood trim and floors, updating the kitchen and bathroom. I did it just to make a nicer place for myself to live, but in the process, discovered that I really enjoy taking on home improvement projects and working at them in my spare time. My wife and I are looking for a bigger house, and we are thinking about getting a big old English Tudor house that was built in 1893. It is among the older houses in the city. The current owner claims that has been owned by some important people in the town’s history and that it could be put on the historic home registry.
I know that there are some tax benefits, and also some drawbacks as far as regulations on what you can do to the house as you restore it. Does anyone have experience dealing with historic homes? What would one have to do to get a house put on the registry? Is it even worth doing?
