Filing married for first time, husband in Army, i worked only 2 months from oct – dec 08, bought a house and?

a rv. bought the house in july 08, the rv in dec 08. im a german national and didnt have a ssn until august, then started working in oct-dec, i only paid 68 cent in state taxes haha. husbands fed taxes withheld were 1843.42, he claims 0. we got married in 07 but couldnt file together as i had no social yet. we paid 333.86 in county taxes for the house and 3427.18 in interest in 2008. we already know what we are getting back in state taxes for him, we assume i might have to pay. we also bought a new car in april/may 08, purchased on army post. we have made some home improvements (tile in dining room, patio in back, porch in front) have the receipt. what about the first time home owner credit for 7500? our 10% would be way over that so we would get the 7500 so..any estimates on how much we would get back in fed taxes or in general? thank you to whoever will answer

Does this sound good for my husband for Christmas?

My husband’s birthday is right before Christmas.

Birthday:
Subscription to a Wine magazine.
Wine bottle stopper.
Wine tour and tasting for the two of us to go on.

Christmas:
Magazine for Home Workshop- it’s a home reno/ diy magazine.
Screwdriver set
Gift certificate for Home Depot
Cell phone holder for tool belt

Stocking:
fishing tackle
golf tees
Nail driver thingy- whatever that is but it was recommended already. :P
What else?

What else should I get him? He obviously really likes golfing, fishing, and he’s gone nutty over woodworking and home improvements. :P

I have about $200.00 to spend, but I don’t necessarily want to spend it all on a big item, you know?

Thanks!!!!

How do I get my husband to get something done without haranguing him?

Seems like we always end up acting like a mom and her eighth-grader arguing about homework. But I’ve tried pretty much all the constructive ways I could think of to get him going on a project. On the last couple of home improvement projects, we worked on it together, and it was difficult getting him going. I would have to do all the research (borrow the books from the library and learn how to do it) I would draw out the plan and list all the material we need. This time around, I’m too busy with a baby, so I tell him it’s his project. It’s a project that might take a couple of weekends, so we agree on a deadline that’s months away, in October. Now, with a couple of weekends left, he’s still not doing any research, drawing out a plan, figuring out what he needs. And only after we end up having a big fight does he even start looking into it. This is an awful pattern to get into, but how do I get out?
Also, he’s equally into these things getting done DIY. I suggested that we hire someone, but he’s adamant that this latest project is simple enough for him to do alone.
